Beach Guide | Cala Media Luna
This little beach is locted at the far end of the dirt track coming from San Jose, passing all the other beaches and coves. I call this bay the little sister of Monsul beach, that is hiding behind its hill.
It features the same find black lava sand and formations. The Crescent Beach is, as its name "Media Luna" (half moon) suggests, a small beach flanked by low-rise cliffs of volcanic material identical to that found in on Monsul.
Last time we visited this beach during an Easter holiday break, in spring. A wonderful time to explore and hike in this area. There is almost no tourism at all and mother nature covers the entire Natural Park with beautiful flower carpets! Hikers will even spot rare orchids in the interior volcano mountains of the Natural Park. In my opinion, this is one of the best times to visit the Province.
The volcanic rocks of the cliffs on the right hand side of the beach, facing the sea, have strange shapes that resemble the silhouette of the moon in that state. In the crystalline waters divers and snorkelers will be able to admire the posedonia seaweed!
Therefore, if, after a windy day you should see this seagrass on the shore, don't get annoyed (like some people do), since it is a message from mother nature telling you that here the water enjoys maximum health. In fact, it is one of the last places in the Mediterranean that has preserved this kind of fragile underwater ecosystem. The majesty of the surroundings, the intensity of light and tranquility allows to isolate and drift away. A delight for body and soul.
Climbing over volcanic rocks and stones, we came to a point where the ocean invaded our way and made it impossible to continue. We therefore decided to wait until summer, in order to repeat and swim over to the next hidden cove: "Cala de Carbon" (carbon cove).
Follow the same direction instructions I have given for Los Genoveses beach here, continuing the road until the next big parking, in fact you will see both beaches, Monsul and this one from the newly created car park.
