"Sand and Dunes" Day Trip.
Birdwatching in Cabo de Gata Naturalpark

We will do 47 km during six hours, in our 4x4 vehicle, looking for birds and other wildlife creatures, also enjoying landscape and learning about Cabo de Gata and Almeria geology, ethnography and history as we travel along.

BRIEFING:

Our trip begins in the western "door" of Cabo de Gata Natural-Park (also Geo-Park); the first section is to drive along the beach, stopping twice to look for marine birds.

After the first six kilometers we enter into the sand dunes area, before returning again to the beach.

Another 12 kilometers later, we reach the Mazarrulleque wetland, where Greater Flamingo is expected to be observed, along with other birds species.

Continuing towards the Salt-pans area, we stop at three places specially prepared for bird watching.

After a snack, we border the salt-pans on the far side, where great panoramic views are awaiting us, and a fourth bird observatory.

We then carry on to look for birds through the Fan Palm steppe, where we will learn more about the geomorphology of the territory.

After just ten minutes on the road we enter into the "Dupont´s lark territory", a steppe of abandoned Agave (pita) plantation.

Finally, on our way back, we will stop to observe whenever necessary.
